FRANCE SUPPORTS COFFEE GROWTH IN NORTHWEST VIETNAM
On June 6, the French Embassy in Vietnam in collaboration with the French Center for International Cooperation in Agricultural Research for Development (CIRAD) and the Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences (VAAS) held a seminar to announce results of trial planting of hybrid only coffee (Arabica) varieties in the Northwest region. Within the framework of a French-funded project and tasting 5 coffee samples harvested from these trial plots. Includes Sarchimor Marsellesa, F1 hybrid Starmaya, F1 hybrid Centroamericano (H1) and Catimor (local variety – control).
French Ambassador to Vietnam Nicolas Warnery highly appreciated this event. This is a key project in cooperation between France and Vietnam. This is a clear demonstration of the quality of cooperation between the two countries in the field of agriculture in particular.
“The good news is that through the initial test results, the new coffee variety shows outstanding drought and sun tolerance. Especially high resistance to pests and diseases and better yields. Thanks to these properties, farmers can limit the use of input fertilizers and pesticides. Thereby ensuring economic and biological factors in coffee farming. Ambassador Nicolas Warnery emphasized.
